Parliamentarian Views

On 2009-02-05 the following message was sent to all 824 Australian parliamentarians: (There was also a follow-up sent on 2009-03-05)

CIR Australia Inc is conducting a survey of all Australian

parliamentarians for their views on Citizens' Initiated Referendum. I am

sure that you would have heard of this idea many times over the years and

you can find out more at www.CIR-Australia.net

We know that your time is very limited so the survey consists of just one

simple question.

Please note that the individual responses of all parliamentarians will be

shown on our web site. It would be helpful if you could reply before the

21st ofFebruary but later responses will be recorded.

Thank you very much for your time and for the service you give.

The option was then given:

I support the principle of Citizens' Initiated Referendum

                                     OR

I do not support the principle of Citizens' Initiated Referendum

The results are as follows. A whole fifteen members voted, another two replied but didn't vote and one could not be contacted. The remainder, some 806 or 98%, couldn't find two minutes to respond to a very short and polite survey addressed to legislators about the legislative process.

Here is the list of those who did have the courtesy to vote.
